    o Chrysler Group's new 2013 Ram 1500 has been named "Truck of Texas" by the Texas Auto Writers Association, which also named Ram "Truck Line of Texas," the Detroit News said. The group, made up of automotive writers and reviewers from Texas, also gave its award for "Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas" to the Ram 1500 Laramie Edition, the News said. "Our members overwhelmingly chose the 2013 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas and the truck for Texans. The new Ram 1500 is amazing," said Michael Herzing, president of the association, the article said. "The new technologies in this truck are true game changers and raise the bar for the competition. You've got to love how tough, capable, comfortable and fuel efficient this new truck is. It blew our members away.

    2013 Dodge Dart earns 5-star federal safety rating, Edmunds' Inside Line, Oct. 19

    o The 2013 Dodge Dart has earned the highest rating in the five-star safety-rating program of the U.S. government, according to, Edmunds' Inside Line said. The Dart earned five stars in the front crash test category, five stars in the side crash test category and four stars in the rollover crash category, the article said. Earlier this month the Dart earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the website said. Edmunds says the federal tests are considered to be the gold standard when it comes to safety ratings.

      o The biggest gaining auto brand in car-happy California may come as a surprise - it's Chrysler, USA Today said. The brand more than doubled sales for the first nine months of the year compared to the same period last year, the paper said. The Chrysler Group's other main brands also saw strong gains in the Golden State: Jeep® was sixth with a 34.6 percent increase and Dodge was 11th with 23.5 percent, according to the California New Car Dealers Association, the article said. California is the nation's largest auto market, the article said. The report says that Chrysler Group made strong showing with the Dodge Charger, followed by Chrysler 300 in the large midsize category; Jeep Grand Cherokee is fourth in midsize SUV, and Fiat 500 is fourth among the smallest of small cars, USA Today said.
